Tree of Life: Lifelong Learners
This is a community-based art project made with senior citizens from the Senior Adult Care center in Scottsdale. The seniors who use this center worked with Glen and came up with the theme, ‘Life-long Learners’. The seniors liked the theme because it conveys the idea the people continue to grow and learn throughout life. Glen worked with seniors to create a mural that shares some of the ideas and life lessons most important to them i.e. curiosity, creativity, and learning. The goal was to show creativity is ageless and a means of teaching, inspiring, and sharing.
Glen likes to share the creative process with the community for whom she works. She presents an idea and then lets the group transform and evolve the idea. Like many of her projects, this is community born project and reinforces community by creating a reason to come together- to create art. For this project, the seniors created the shapes, discussed the design, and worked on color schemes. The final piece is a mosaic of a textured tree with inspiring words carved into the tile.
